While we impatiently wait for Galaxy According to the Korean ET news server, Samsung engineers are preparing 5 MPx photo modules for the S16, which is expected to have a 20 MPx camera, probably for the second half of 2014.

So all this contradicts previous speculations that Samsung will no longer sharply increase the number of MPx on its cameras, although this is not yet confirmed informace. Compared to e.g. 13 MPx sensors on cameras u Galaxy S4 or Note 3 would be a very significant change, of course for the better. Unfortunately, since the Note shares the same camera hardware as the Galaxy S, we won't see new 20 MPx cameras on smartphones until 2015.

So far, Samsung is implementing 16 MPx photo modules in 25% of all smartphones (it plans to produce 360 million smartphones, so about 90 million of them will have a 16 MPx camera), which will be released next year, including the already mentioned Samsung Galaxy S5 and with this it rises above its competition in this area. With the release of 20 MPx photo modules next year, they will significantly improve their leadership.

"When Samsung Electronics included a 13 MPx photo module in next-gen smartphones after 8 MPx products, it became the norm rather quickly," said a Samsung employee. "Now is the time for 16 MPx products to become the trend after 20 MPx products."
