iPhone it's not the only phone to make it into Earth's orbit for a long time. After the testing of PhoneSat 1.0 in April/April, a modified Nexus S model made in cooperation between Samsung and Google also got into space. The three-year-old phone, which few people remember today, received a hardware update at the hands of NASA, during which the phone turned into a miniature space satellite weighing only 997 grams. Due to the needs of the space agency, the phone received a modified S-band antenna, thanks to which it is modified Android capable of communicating with Earth.

And that's exactly what happened today. Two weeks after launching "PhoneSat 2.4" into orbit, the phone was able to make a call with the agency, and NASA can now consider its project a success. However, like other creations of the space agency, the PhoneSat is not among the cheapest, as its development cost $7. On the one hand, this is not enough, if we compare it with other satellites, on the other hand, the price of the phone, which was the first to bring NFC support for Android. Interestingly, even though the phone is currently in space, NASA has practically not removed any feature from it, so even the space model includes a 5-megapixel camera and Android 2.3 Gingerbread.
