Prague, January 3, 2014 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., a global leader in digital media and digital convergence, will introduce a new version of its smart TV remote control at CES 2014 in Las Vegas. It features faster and more accurate functions, more efficient content selection and an improved design.

The new Samsung 2014 remote control combines motion gesture recognition with a new button console and is equipped with a touchpad, which facilitates more accurate selection and faster control for customers who often consume video content via the Internet.

Samsung Smart TV users can now very easily switch between individual menu items using gestures. They can also easily access their contents using the four directional buttons. Within the Samsung Smart Hub panels or if the searched content has multiple pages, the touchpad of the remote control can be used to flip between individual pages as easily as turning a page in a book.

The new controller also allows you to search for a website or video content via voice control, the so-called Voice Interaction function. Users can speak directly into the remote control to instantly access their favorite content.

The design of the remote control has also been improved. From the traditional flat rectangular shape, Samsung moved to an elongated oval design that fits much better and naturally in the hand. The circular touchpad, including the direction buttons, is located in the center of the remote control and is naturally reachable with the thumb. This new ergonomic design minimizes the need to move your hand while supporting the use of gestures and voice control of your Samsung Smart TV.

The touchpad on the new remote control is more than 80 percent smaller than last year's version and has been designed for ease of use, including various shortcuts for frequently used functions.

The Samsung Smart Control 2014 remote control also includes buttons such as "Multi-Link Screen", which is a function that allows users to watch more content at once on one screen, or "Football Mode", which optimizes the display of football programs with a single button.

The TV remote control was first introduced in 1950 and has gone through several stages of development since then. It moved to wireless, LCD and QWERTY formats, and nowadays modern controllers also feature the ability to control TVs with voice or movements. The design of the controllers has also changed – from classic rectangular ones, the trend is moving towards more modern, ergonomically curved shapes.

"The evolution of TV remote controls has to keep pace with how new and new features are added to the TVs themselves," says KwangKi Park, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing of Samsung Electronics' Visual Display Division. "We will continue to develop such remote controls so that users can use them as intuitively and easily as possible." adds Park.
