Samsung has expanded voice control to a total of 23 countries around the world and has newly added the ability to control TVs with the movement of a finger. Samsung, the world's leading digital media and digital convergence company, unveiled new Smart TV control options at CES 2014 in Las Vegas. Voice control is currently available in 11 countries, and Samsung will expand the service to 12 more this year. In total, it will be available in 23 countries around the world. Samsung was inspired by the customers themselves and focused on the most frequently used functions during the improvement.
"The new 2014 Samsung Smart TV models feature significantly more advanced voice and motion controls to help customers use our smart TVs more intuitively," said Kyungshik Lee, Senior Vice President of the Strategy Team of the Display Division of Samsung Electronics. "We will continue to develop content that integrates voice and motion recognition for the greater convenience of our customers," added Lee.
With the new Samsung Smart TV 2014 models, searching for content will be even easier than before. Users will be able to change the program in one single step by simply saying its number. They'll even be able to open websites or apps using keyboard shortcuts. In comparison, 2013 models required two steps to change a TV program - the user had to say "Change Channel" and "Channel Number". The voice search function also becomes much more convenient as users can find all the content results in one single place.
If a customer uses voice search for common daily information such as weather, stocks or sports while watching TV, a pop-up window will appear at the bottom of the search results page. Then simply click on the window and the application itself will open with details informacemy.
In addition to voice control, Samsung has also improved gesture control in the new Smart TV 2014 models by adding the ability to control the TV with just a finger. With the movement of a finger, users can change the TV channel, adjust the volume or search and choose what they want to watch. They can also go back to the previous channel they were watching or stop the video simply by moving their finger counter-clockwise. The new Smart TV 2014 models thus become more intuitive in their control.
