Prague, January 7, 2014 – Samsung, a world leader in memory technology and manufacturing, has introduced the first 8Gb mobile memory DRAM s low energy consumption LPDDR4 (low power double data rate 4).

"This new generation LPDDR4 DRAM will significantly contribute to the faster growth of the global mobile DRAM market, which will soon account for the largest share of the entire DRAM market,” said Young-Hyun May, Executive Vice President of Business and Marketing of the Memory Division of Samsung Electronics. "We will strive to constantly be one step ahead of other manufacturers and continue to introduce the most advanced mobile DRAMs so that global manufacturers can launch new mobile devices in the shortest possible time frame,” added Young-Hyun May.

With its features such as higher memory density, high performance and energy efficiency, Samsung DRAM LPDDR4 mobile memories will enable end users to use advanced applications faster and smoother and also enjoy higher resolution displays with less battery consumption.

New Samsung DRAM LPDDR4 mobile memories with a capacity of 8Gb are being produced 20nm production technology and offers a capacity of 1 GB on one chip, which is currently the highest density of DRAM memories. With four chips, each with a capacity of 8 Gb, a single case will provide 4 GB of LPDDR4, the highest level of performance available.

In addition, LPDDR4 uses a low-voltage Low Voltage Swing Terminated Logic (LVSTL) I/O interface, which Samsung originally designed for JEDEC. The new chips achieve transfer speeds of up to 3 Mbps, which is twice the speed of currently produced LPDDR3 DRAMs. However, at the same time consumes approximately 40% less energy at a voltage of 1,1 V.

With the new chip, Samsung plans to focus not only on the premium mobile market, including UHD smartphones with a large display, but also on tablets a ultra-slim notebooks, which offer a display four times higher than Full-HD resolution, and also at high powerful network systems.

Samsung is a leading developer of mobile DRAM technologies and is the market share leader in mobile DRAM with 4Gb and 6Gb LPDDR3. The company started offering the thinnest and smallest 3GB LPDDR3 (6Gb) in November and is introducing a new 8Gb LPDDR4 DRAM in 2014. The 8Gb mobile DRAM chip will expand very quickly in the next-generation mobile device market using high-capacity DRAM chips.
