samsung-gear-2It looks like Samsung is preparing two new additions to the Samsung Gear portfolio. The company registered the trademarks Samsung Gear Solo and Samsung Gear Now. The former confirms speculation that Samsung is preparing a special edition Samsung Gear 2 that will come with a built-in USIM card and will work even without a smartphone. Thanks to the USIM module, users can make phone calls and send messages without first having to connect the watch to the phone. Given that Samsung has also acquired a trademark in the US, this may confirm that the watch will be sold abroad as well, not just in South Korea.

Battery life is currently considered to be the biggest problem with these watches. Devices with 3G connection support have a higher consumption than devices without an antenna. The Gear 2 contains a battery with a capacity of 300 mAh, and there is a risk that the Gear Solo will have a significantly lower endurance, which is quite a serious problem for watches. In the end, the question remains, what is Samsung Gear Now. The trademark description says that it is a physical product and not a software service as the name might suggest. So it may be another product that may go on sale after Samsung's announcement Galaxy Note 4 at the end of the year.
