windows-8.1-updateMicrosoft revealed at this year's BUILD conference that, in addition to the new Windows 8.1 Update plans to return to its system a Mini-Start menu similar to what people were used to from Windows 7 and older. Microsoft claimed at the time that this was only a sample of what Microsoft plans for the future and did not set a firm date. Well, nothing remained secret and The Verge obtained information from its sources, according to which the traditional Start Menu will return to Windows 8.1 in just a few months as part of Update 2.

According to his sources, this should happen already in August of this year, when Microsoft plans to release Windows 8.1 Update 2, which will bring several significant changes. Another significant change should be the ability to launch applications from Windows Store directly on the desktop, which will bring about an even greater unification of the two environments. Already the first Windows 8.1 Update brought the ability to display tiled applications in the taskbar on the desktop. Both news items were originally supposed to appear in Windows 9, but Microsoft management has changed its mind and says that the features should be released as soon as possible. So the question remains in the end, what will it bring Windows 9, if both functions get to Windows 8.1 Update 2. The sources did not rule out that Windows 9 will be released next year. Microsoft wants to speed up the release of new operating systems in order to compete with the competition, while its model should be iOS a Android, where a new version of the system is released every year. But it looks like Microsoft plans to release updates every six months.

Microsoft wants to change the platform further Windows RT. Due to the fact that it is a lightweight version Windows intended for tablets with ARM architecture and Windows Phone also works on ARM architecture, Microsoft wants to merge these two platforms into one. It should be confirmed primarily by the official administration, that Windows it will be free for phones with a diagonal of up to 9 inches, which is already a sufficient diagonal for smaller tablets. Such tablets were supposed to run on the platform Windows RT, but some manufacturers have already managed to create 8-inch tablets with a full-fledged Windows 8 on the x86 architecture. In the end, the biggest question remains how Microsoft will behave in relation to the changes it is preparing. It is not yet known whether the mini-Start will be available as an optional function or whether Microsoft plans to definitively unite both environments into one by canceling the Start screen from Windows 8.
