Samsung Gear 2Prague, May 7, 2014 – Samsung Electronics is holding a global app development competition for the Gear 2 smartwatch called the Samsung Gear App Challenge. In this way, he wants to revive the market with applications designed for wearable devices. Since introducing the Samsung Gear 2 to the public in February 2014, Samsung has been offering developers freebies a software development SDK based on the Tizen platform, intended for this wearable device. Developers can submit their SDK-developed apps to the contest starting May 8, 2014.

Prizes for winners reach 1,25 million dollars, inclusive $100 cash for first place.

Since 2012, the competition is the third in a series of contests called the Samsung Smart App Challenge and is part of the company's long-term plan to develop the wearable app ecosystem.

"The purpose of this event is to strengthen the app ecosystem for the recently launched Samsung Gear 2. Samsung will continue to play a key role in the wearable market through a wide range of SDKs for app development," said Won-Pyo Hong, president of Samsung Electronics Media Solution Center.

In addition to the Samsung Gear App Challenge, Samsung plans to hold various events around the world to help developers better understand the Samsung Gear 2 SDK. Company representatives will meet with developers around the world at the Samsung Gear Hackathon and Developer Day events.
