ebay logoA short time ago, eBay reported that one of its databases was attacked by hackers, who thus got access to sensitive user data. The hackers succeeded in decrypting the passwords of individual employees of the company, thus gaining access to login data, e-mail addresses, residential addresses and dates of birth of individual users. The worst part is that the database was hacked already at the turn of February/February and March/March, but the company discovered the first traces only two weeks ago.

eBay is now closely monitoring the activity of individual user accounts, but has not yet seen any suspicious activity that would indicate that hackers have misused user data. Even so, it is recommended that users change their passwords as soon as possible to restore the security of their accounts. If you're an eBay user and you're worried that hackers have gotten hold of your credit card information, then we have a bit more positive news for you. Data on payment methods are located on separate servers, which the hackers did not reach at all. They also failed to get access to the data of users of the PayPal service, which falls under eBay.
