Starting Friday, Google is allowing Europeans to fill out a form that, if they comply, will delete you from the internet. The form acts as an official request and was set up after the Court of Justice of the European Union ruled that every European citizen has the right to be "forgotten" online. The verdict was issued following a complaint from a Spanish citizen who complained about a violation of privacy because he found an auction notice for his already reacquired house in a Google search.

What must be done to "delete from the Internet"? First of all, Google requests identity verification from the applicant, in the form of a digital copy of a driver's or ID card. After that, you have to choose from a menu of 32 European countries and provide links that the person in question wishes to remove from the search and at the same time explain why these links are inappropriate. Furthermore, 2 criteria must be met. The first of them is that every link should be outdated and interfere with the user's life in some way, but according to the second criterion there must be no reason for the result to be available in the search engine in the future, one of the reasons could be for example informace about the commission of a crime. If the criteria are met and the identity is documented along with links and an explanation, the form will go to a special Google committee that will consider the case and then evaluate it. However, how long the user will have to wait is in the stars, in any case, it will not be a short period of time, as more than 12 requests for deletion came to the commission on the very first day.
