Prague, June 2, 2014 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. plans to launch the first Software Development Kit (SDK) to develop applications for TVs running the Tizen operating system. The new developer pack supports the HTML5 standard through a framework called Caph. The Tizen-based Samsung TV SDK Beta will be available in early July following the Tizen Developer Conference in San Francisco on June 2-4, 2014.

“We're excited to offer app developers the opportunity to try this new platform ahead of time when the Beta SDK is released. In line with the goal of expanding the TV app ecosystem, we will continue our efforts to provide innovative features and improve the developer environment.” said YoungKi Byun, Vice President of Visual Display Business S/W R&D Team, Samsung Electronics.

Samsung's new SDK marks the industry's first attempt to significantly improve the developer ecosystem by offering new technologies such as an interface for developing virtual TV applications. Developers can now virtually see all the necessary functions of the TV without its physical presence. Also, with the new debugging feature, they have the ability to change the code on their computers, whereas in the past they had to connect directly to the TV to fix app errors.

With increasingly perfect animation and design effects, the Tizen-based Samsung TV SDK Beta also introduces various scenarios, including Smart Interaction, which allows you to control the TV with simple gestures and voice commands, and multi-screen, which can be used to connect the TV with various devices, including mobile and wearable.

The launch of the Tizen-based Samsung TV SDK is the next step in Samsung's efforts to encourage innovation in the developer community and enable full flexibility in user experience creation. Samsung will continue to actively work with Tizen to enable developers and operators to extend their reach to more connected devices.

The Tizen-based Samsung TV SDK will be available for download from July 2014 on the Samsung Developers Forum website: www.samsungdforum.com.
