samsung-galaxy-glass-patent-7Samsung's virtual reality glasses are a reality, and it seems that Samsung intends to introduce them alongside Galaxy Note 4 at the IFA 2014 fair. The glasses have already received the official name Samsung Gear VR, which was also confirmed by the application that Samsung is preparing. The early beta version of the application has already managed to get into the hands of the editors of SamMobile, and it was there that they managed to reveal a lot of news that reveals the possible design of the product and the number of functions that the product will have.

Virtual reality from Samsung will initially offer three applications - VR Panorama, VR Cinema and HMT Manager, officially known as Gear VR Manager. Due to the fact that the product is only available from Samsung today, only the Manager application has found real use. This allows you to connect the device to a mobile phone and allows you to download additional applications from Samsung Apps, which were designed for glasses. But today, of course, you won't find any applications in it, since the glasses haven't come out yet. There are now three important functions in the settings, namely VR Lock, which allows you to set a security lock for the use of glasses, Notifications, which warn the user every hour that they are in virtual reality, and finally, Undock Alert, which notifies the user of disconnecting the phone from glasses and will display instructions to reconnect. Probably the biggest surprise in the case of the Samsung Gear VR is that the glasses serve as a module to which people connect their smartphone using the USB 3.0 interface.

The application as such further revealed that the right side of the glasses will have a touchpad and a back button, which will be used to return to the previous screen and to switch to the "real world" when held down for a long time. In this case, the virtual reality is temporarily turned off and the camera is turned on on the screen, thanks to which the person will see what is in front of him. Voice and touchpad will be used to control the screen, since after connecting the smartphone to the glasses it will not be possible to control the display in any way. Additionally, touchpad and mouse support is built right in Androidand so the alternative control will be taken care of, even if it will probably require a little practice at first. It will also be possible to use S Voice voice control, which will be active immediately after connection and will listen to the words "Hi Galaxy! ".

The device as such is produced in cooperation between Samsung and Oculus VR, thanks to which it cannot be said that it is a competitor to the Oculus Rift, but simply a supplement to phones from Samsung, specifically to Galaxy Note 4. Samsung will of course release a developer SDK with which developers will be able to develop their own applications for Gear VR. These will be available in Samsung Apps, where the novelty will have its own section with applications, whether this section will also be accessible via VR or only via the Manager on the phone, we will see in less than two months.
