Samsung Gear LiveThe Samsung Gear Solo watch, which recently could have been simply renamed to Samsung S Gear, they do exist after all. The Korean daily Yonhap News has revealed that the watch, which will offer a slot for a SIM card and therefore be able to make phone calls and send messages even without a phone, will be presented in the near future, more precisely at the IFA 2014 fair. So it is possible that Samsung will introduce them at the same event as two other important products, namely Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Samsung Gear VR.

The watch will also most likely run on Tizen OS as the platform Android Wear it does not support SIM cards and therefore does not allow manufacturers to make standalone watches. On the contrary, because Tizen OS was made by Samsung, Samsung can customize it according to its wishes and does not have to wait for the moment when Google updates Android Wear. The biggest question mark regarding the Samsung Gear Solo watch hangs over the battery life. This is because the watch contains a very small battery and because the watch will contain a mobile antenna that will regularly receive a signal, this will have a bad effect on the battery life of the watch. So it is very questionable how Samsung dealt with this problem. The Samsung Gear Solo is labeled SM-R710 and is likely to cost around $400 / €400.
