smartthings_conaSamsung already showed its interest in the smart home at the CES 2014, when it presented its Smart Home concept. Later, Samsung also became a member of the Thread consortium, which brings together companies trying to advance home automation and the Internet of Things, and further consolidated its position in it by buying SmartThings for $200 million. The IFA 2014 trade fair in Berlin is now starting, and Samsung intends to present its Smart Home concept there, which it will also expand with several useful features.

But it revealed its plans earlier today, and from what we know, Samsung intends to expand Smart Home to support third-party devices, including digital door locks and IP cameras, i.e. security cameras that use an internet connection. However, this is the only information that Samsung has released on this point, so we will have to wait a little longer to find out what products and what partners Samsung has added to its Smart Home initiative.

When it comes to product control, the company has enriched Smart Home with S Voice support on the Samsung Gear watch, thanks to which users only need to wear the watch on their wrists and use their voice to control lamps or vacuum cleaners. It is also worth mentioning that the Smart Home project will use data about the user's location and, based on this, will be able to change the air conditioning settings remotely. In addition, as a bonus, it sends the user information about how much the next electricity bill should cost. Of course, there will also be a Smart Home SDK for developers, which the company will present later at the Samsung Developer Conference.
