At the IFA 2014 conference, in addition to all the new devices, the new monitor from Samsung did not go unnoticed. The name UD970 for this monitor is nothing interesting, but that is not the point of this beautiful piece. The point is in the size, resolution and quality of the provided colors. The Samsung UD970 has a diagonal of 31,5 inches and is a professional monitor. The resolution is also not far behind and therefore offers Ultra HD, which means 3840 x 2160 pixels.
But what is the most interesting? Type of display technology. Most of us are used to the IPS panel standard these days. However, this was not enough for Samsung. They went into research and improved this technology and called it S-PLS. What makes it better? Compared to IPS, S-PLS provides better contrast, lower production cost and less consumption.
The monitor offers very good color reproduction, which is ensured by the 10-bit color depth. The monitor can also display 99,5% of the Adobe RGB color gamut and 100% of the sRGB color spectrum. This means that it can render colors in the sRGB spectrum precisely, and as for the much wider spectrum of Adobe RGB colors, it delivers it with an accuracy of 99.5%, which is probably the highest number on the market and the difference compared to 100% cannot be discerned with the naked eye. To make matters worse, the monitor has a brightness of up to 400cd/m2, which is a huge number.
As for the response, 8ms is not the smallest number on the market, but only gamers care about this value, and this monitor is not for gamers. It is aimed at people who need to work hand in hand with the monitor. And that's why designers, photographers and other workers don't look at response but at all other specifications. Other parameters include classic DisplayPort 1.2 ports, specifically 2 times. Furthermore, we have 1x HDMI 1.4 and one dual-link DVI connector. You can also use the USB 3.0 port here, even up to 5 times (1x upstream, 4x downstream).
The stand is designed to take up as little space as possible and at the same time can be turned up to 90° (pivot position) and sideways up to an interesting 30°. Of course, the display is calibrated from the factory. However, the price does not please, in America it should be sold at a price of $2. However, as mentioned, the Samsung UD000 is intended for professional use, where this price is completely normal compared to competitors. We do not yet know information about sales in the EU.
