gmailAccess data from a total of 5 million accounts from Google's Gmail and Google+ services have appeared on the Internet! This happened only two days after the leak of data from four and a half million Mail.ru accounts and not even 2 weeks after hackers published intimate photos of dozens of celebrities. Specifically, the passwords and usernames appeared on the Russian Bitcoin forum, where they were uploaded by the user "tvskit", who also confirmed that more than 60% of the mentioned 5 million passwords work without any problems. According to available information, the leak mainly affects English-, Russian- and Spanish-speaking users, or those who have one of these languages set as their main language.

However, according to Google's statement, these are mainly unused or blocked accounts and that there was no breach of the security system, the data was said to have been obtained for a long time directly from individual users using phishing and hacker attacks. Nevertheless, we recommend that you change the password of your Google account immediately and on the page IsLeaked.com by entering your email in the appropriate box, check whether yours has not been published as well. To a lesser extent, the data leak also affects users of Yandex, the most used search engine in Russia.

UPDATE 12.9.2014/11/23 XNUMX:XNUMX AM:
Samsung Magazine obtained an exclusive statement from the CEO of Safetica Technologies, Mr. Jakub Mahdal, on the leak of Gmail users' passwords: In the leaked data, e-mails and passwords of Czech users appeared, this is also the result of the monitoring of social networks, where people themselves are surprised to note that their e-mail is there. And as we already mentioned, they more or less confirm that the password used is one of those they have used in the past.

The numbers cannot be ascertained, the emails do not have a Czech domain and there is no way to determine this, as well as whether they were (and are) used for company purposes. In general, gMail is more of a "free-mail" for private use, but many people also use it for business or have it somehow linked to a company.

But it is definitely true, and we would like to emphasize that any password leaks mean that users whose password linked to a specific email has been leaked may be at risk - on the one hand, if they are still using it. And we have already pointed out that it may be a leak of passwords for a service other than Gmail, here it is important not to forget that our e-mails are used as login "names" for other services - for example Facebook, to mention a widely used and widespread service. And people really do use the same passwords repeatedly on a number of services.
