20nm-4Gb-DDR3-03Samsung Electronics has announced that it has just started mass production of new 6Gb LPDDR3 RAM modules for mobile devices. The company will produce new operational memories with the help of a 20-nm production process, which will be reflected in lower energy consumption by 10% and an increase in performance by up to 30%. Each pin of these memory modules has a transfer speed of 2,133 Mb/s.

The chips are also smaller by 20% compared to the previous modules, if we take into account a set of four memory modules next to each other. A set of four memory modules is thus able to provide the phone with 3 GB of RAM, as each memory module provides a memory of 768 MB. Here it can be seen that Samsung probably has an even longer time to wake up to the high-end limit of 3 GB of RAM, and only sometime at the end of next year will we be able to start fantasizing about the fact that our mobile phones have the same amount of operating memory that is found in our computers.
