Samsung-LogoSamsung, in cooperation with the operator SK Telecom, announced that they succeeded in developing the technology of broadcasting mobile television in near real time. The companies announced that they have successfully tested and demonstrated this new technology using LTE-A networks, which are currently only available in a few countries around the world. The currently used mobile TV technology has a delay of at least 15 seconds compared to traditional cable TV or IPTV broadcasting.

However, Samsung and SK Telecom have joined forces to significantly reduce this delay, with the new technology having a delay of only 3 seconds, which is an advantage for people who use their smartphones to watch TV broadcasts. The pair also plan to make the new technology available to all SK Telecom customers by the end of the year, but customers will be able to look forward to further management in the future. Indeed, SK Telecom has announced that it is co-operating with Samsung in the field of R&D operations and will continue to work on further reducing broadcast delay as well as increasing the reliability and convenience of mobile broadcasting. The pair also want to make the new technology a standard, as they intend to discuss it with associations such as 3GPP and MPEG.
