samsung plasma tvBratislava, November 24, 2014 - European TV fans are surprisingly considerate when it comes to revealing plot and plot twists, according to Samsung Electronics' latest findings into TV viewing habits. As many as 71% of respondents admitted that they would they never deliberately revealed key parts of the plot (the so-called spoiler). Every fifth would additionally it didn't matter if he was exposed to a spoiler on social networks, and a quarter of series fans go so far as to deliberately avoid social media, magazines, newspapers and radio so as not to find out in advance the development of the plot.

Management of Samsung Electronics named The Way We Watch reveals the reasons why people like to watch series. Around half of Europeans enjoy TV shows one episode at a time. For example, viewers in Italy and Switzerland (specifically 60% and 62% respectively) enjoy several episodes in a row. It stems from the spectator habits of Europeans solidarity approach of a third of TV fans, who always ask others if they have seen an episode of the series before they start talking about it, so as not to accidentally reveal the plot.

 "No wonder people's attitude towards spoilers is so extreme. Watching TV series is associated with a strong emotional involvement. From a psychological point of view, the so-called reciprocity is clearly manifested - people appreciate the positive actions of others, for example, when they do not reveal a spoiler to them. This reciprocity is a small kindness that can create a sense of commitment and support relationships on a larger scale. It is also related to the understanding of the essence of fair play. Evolutionary psychologists explain this positive social behavior as helping others who will help me in return." explains cyberpsychologist Berni Good.

The management of Samsung Electronics also highlights that for half of the respondents in Europe, watching TV is a form an escape from everyday life. However, this escape comes with stress. A total of 46% of European viewers are so emotionally involved in watching television that they are genuinely sad when their favorite series or show ends. More than half begin to follow the fates of new heroes, and every sixth viewer admits the need to immediately fill the feeling of emptiness with other shows.

Watching key events in a TV series plays with the emotional state of Europeans. Only 43% of viewers say they don't care when bad things happen to their favorite TV characters. One in three also feels anxiety at the turn of events. It is therefore understandable that 45% of people are so engrossed in the plot while watching television, that they can be grumpy or even get angry when something disturbs them while watching.
