Galaxy S5 fingerprint sensorThat fingerprint sensor that Samsung came with last year Galaxy The S5 is not perfect, we could see for ourselves in ours review, because unlocking the phone itself was sometimes really hell. However, the finding that experts from the security company FireEye came up with is even more critical. Although fingerprint biometric data is stored in a closed, specially secured location on the device, hackers can reportedly easily steal this data before it even gets to said location.

According to the research conducted, it is allegedly enough for hackers to steal data directly from the sensor itself, rather than having to break into the security of the enclave where the fingerprints are stored. In addition, they can achieve this quite simply, by gaining system privileges thanks to malware. And then? A hacker can do anything informace download from the fingerprint sensor, generate an image of the fingerprint, and then use it for anything that involves the use of a fingerprint, including, for example, confirming payments with fingerprints. However, Tao Wei and Yulong Zhang from FireEye confirmed that the problem can be solved relatively easily, by updating to the version of the operating system Android 5.0 which no longer has this problem. In any case, Samsung is already checking the error and will hopefully fix it on the original version in the near future.
