Bratislava, October 29, 2015 – Samsung Electronics, in cooperation with the LepšieBývanie.sk portal, conducted a survey among consumers at the turn of September and October, the aim of which was to find out the preferences of Slovaks when buying a new washing machine. More than 14 respondents took part in the survey, of which 2/3 were women. The survey shows that up to 49% of Slovaks prefer front-loading washing machines compared to 38% who prefer top-loading. Only 13% do not care what type of washing machine it is.
Up to 61% of respondents prefer a washing machine with a capacity of up to 7 kg of laundry, 32% up to 8 kg and only 7% would like a washing machine with a capacity of more than 8 kg of laundry. "On the market, we are following a strong trend towards a drum capacity of 8 kg and more. This year, we expect the 8kg washing machine market to surpass the 7kg capacity. This trend is definitely related to the effect of drum size on wash quality. In general, the washing result is affected by the amount of space in the washing machine," said Kateřina Holíková, product manager of the HA division of Samsung Electronics Czech & Slovak.
Slovaks have their washing machine located most often in the bathroom (77%), but also in the laundry room (13%) or built into the kitchen unit (5%).
The decisive parameter when choosing a new washing machine electricity consumption, which was identified as the most important by more than 11 respondents. This is followed by water consumption, washing efficiency, noise during washing and spinning, spin speed, and at the bottom of the list are laundry capacity and design. When buying a washing machine, respondents would particularly appreciate a 10-year warranty on the motor (51%) and washing powder for the entire lifetime of the appliance (41%). Of the washing programs, self-cleaning dominates, which 54% of respondents would welcome in their washing machine, and 38% would like a special program for stubborn stains.
"The survey just confirmed to us that we offer consumers what matters most to them. Low energy consumption and a 10-year motor warranty are the dominant features of our washing machines with EcoBubble technology. Most of our current portfolio is equipped with a so-called inverter motor, which guarantees low consumption, noise, a long period of trouble-free operation, and at the same time we provide a 10-year warranty on it." Kateřina Holíková from Samsung evaluated the results.
Paradoxically, however, 40% of respondents wash their laundry at 63 °C and 32% rely on washing
at 60 °C. 4% is enough for washing at 30°C. Only 1% of feathers at a temperature of 90 °C. 45% of respondents still do not trust washing in colder water, compared to 39% who think that at 30 °C the laundry will still be washed well.
"Consumers often don't realize that with high temperatures, electricity consumption also increases and fabrics wear out faster. The EcoBubble function, which our washing machines have, effectively activates washing enzymes by dissolving the detergent in the water and enriching it with air, which creates an active foam. It penetrates the fabric faster and the washing effect is more effective. Of course, if we need to boil the laundry, we cannot avoid washing at a temperature of 90 °C," added Kateřina Holíková.
At the same time, Slovak consumers would appreciate the duration of the washing program being under one hour
(56%). 38% do not mind a washing cycle that lasts up to 1,5 hours. In the event of a malfunction, they most want a self-diagnosis function with a proposed solution to eliminate the malfunction (80%). Only 6% wish that the washing machine would call a repairman by itself (6%).
The answer and solution to the mentioned survey are Samsung EcoBubble washing machines, which offer:
