Samsung logoBratislava, October 29, 2015 – Samsung Electronics announced today that it has won a legal case against four retailers who distributed unlicensed non-OEM toner cartridges in Germany. The court of first instance ruled that the team had infringed the company's patent rights (Patent EP1975744).

The district court in Munich stated that Samsung's patent rights were infringed by the sale of CLP-620 toner cartridges**. Dealers sold toner cartridges that were compatible with Samsung printers.

The court ordered the sellers to stop selling the listed products infringing on patent rights and ordered the collection of the cassettes that had been in distribution since July 24, 2013.

"We were pleased with the verdict," said David SW Song, Senior Vice President of Printing Solutions Business at Samsung Electronics. “Through these lawsuits, we want to protect our intellectual property rights, as well as the rights and interests of our customers and companies that manufacture and sell legitimately manufactured toner cartridges. We will continue to fight against sellers who make a living selling illegal unlicensed toners compatible with our products.”

In addition to infringing on Samsung's patent rights, non-genuine toners can cause poor print quality and lead to, for example, excessive printer noise or hardware failure. Samsung's warranty does not cover printer malfunctions caused by the use of non-genuine toners. For this reason, the company is taking measures to prevent similar inconveniences to its customers.

According to a Buyers Laboratory study from 2014, I can print almost twice as many pages with genuine Samsung toners as compared to non-genuine versions. Prints made with original toners also last longer and do not smear. Original Samsung brand toner cartridges also have certificates in the area of environmental protection.

The originality of Samsung toners can be verified using the corresponding labels on the toner box. The color of these labels changes depending on the angle from which they are viewed, and the embossed characters are clearly distinguished by texture.
