Renault Samsung LogoSamsung Electronics has hinted at its future plans this week and appears to have created a new team to be in charge of developing self-driving cars for its vehicles. However, unlike other technological giants that want to enter the car market, Samsung has been in this market since the 90s, although it is true that cars are mainly sold in South Korea.

It will be headed by the company's vice president, Kwon Oh-hyun, who until now has overseen the electronic component manufacturing segment. Now, however, he will have a new team under him who should be in charge of developing autonomous driving technologies that could appear in Samsung cars in the coming years. The newly founded company will probably cooperate with other divisions of the conglomerate, which have also shown interest in the revolution in the automotive industry. Samsung SDI is, for example, a manufacturer of Li-Ion batteries for electric cars, which include, for example, Tesla and probably also Apple, who is reportedly also working on his own autonomous vehicle. Finally, the Samsung Electro-Mechanics division also wants to enter the world of automotive components.
