finger printAlready in the past, we could see quite a few companies that started equipping their phones with a fingerprint sensor. But it was not just any fingerprint, as we know for example from Galaxy S7 and other phones. This one differed from the possibility of using gestures, which was offered, for example, by the rival Honor from Huawei. Many even hoped that last year's flagship from Google, the Nexus6P, would also get this feature. However, this did not happen.

However, Google has reassured its users. The newly introduced flagship from the company of the same name, under the name Pixel and Pixel XL, got fingerprint control using gestures after all. Samsung reacted very quickly to this, and recently filed a patent for this type of functionality for its devices, at least in South Korea.

Samsung even submitted a request for this function in 2014, i.e. two years ago. It follows from this that engineers were already interested in controlling fingerprints using gestures, but it has not yet found its application in phones. However, that should change now. The patent illustrations show quite a few new ways of controlling things than what Google's current flagship offers. So, for example, the gesture "swish" has a completely different meaning. On Pixel phones, this step would launch the notification panel, but on Samsung, quick access to selected apps.

According to the patent, it will be possible to use a simple gesture to launch a web browser, swipe left to save a contact, and swipe right to reply to an SMS message.

For now, the patent has only been filed for South Korea. However, this does not mean that we Europeans cannot wait for the function. Samsung has already used the patent several times in the past, intended only for the Korean market, and for the whole world. Rumor has it that Samsung could already see the news Galaxy S8, which will be introduced in the spring of 2017.
