Things are not looking good at all for the global tablet market. This is mainly due to the continuous decline in sales over the past eight quarters. Unfortunately, the same situation existed a year ago, as it is now in the third quarter of this year. The latest data from market research by IDC point to a rapid decline in sales of tablet devices. In the third quarter of 2016, less than 15 percent fewer tablets were sold than in the same period a year ago. None of the tablet manufacturers were able to deliver more than 10 million units.

According to the survey, just 43 million units were sold in the quarter, down from 50 million last year. The data includes all types of products. It therefore follows that tablet phones and tablets with a keyboard are also included here.

Apple and Samsung sales are falling

One of the largest companies in the world, the company Apple, was only able to sell 9,3 million iPads during this period. The second place was maintained by the Korean Samsung, whose sales amounted to 6,5 million tablets. Both companies worsened year-on-year by 6,2 percent and 19,3 percent, respectively.

While Apple and Samsung worsened, Amazon significantly improved. In Q3 2016, its tablet sales increased by a handsome 3,1 million units, up from 0,8 million in the same period last year. For the American company, this means an increase of 319,9 percent. Lenovo and Huawei managed to deliver 2,7 and 2,4 million units, respectively. Both companies thus close the list of the first 5 companies. All five manufacturers account for 55,8 percent of the global tablet market.
