Press Release: It has been 3 years since domestic operators presented unlimited tariffs with great fanfare. It was a big hit back then, and we were overjoyed with endless calls and 1,5 GB of data. But just as bell rings are no longer worn and permanent is no longer as cool as it used to be, unlimited tariffs are no longer among the hottest fads. But the operators pretend not to hear, so we have to make do with what is. Are there tricks to get some extra data for a nice price? That's what we explored today.

Purchase of data beyond the tariff

You have negotiated a favorable one unlimited tariff, but surf data at lightning speed? Most mobile operators offer the option to purchase additional data beyond your package. And even if you get megabytes for each at a slightly different price, we can generally recommend increasing your data limit over the long term, rather than buying a few hundred units at a time.

How much do individual operators charge?

  • O2 will charge an additional fee of CZK 1,5 for 149 GB in addition to the FREE CZ tariff.
  • T-Mobile to the basic unlimited S námi network nesiť offers 400 MB for CZK 249, 1,5 GB for CZK 349 or 3 GB for CZK 449.
  • For RED LTE tariffs from Vodafone you can get 1 GB per month for CZK 99.

Tuned tariffs with calls abroad

You will get a more generous data allowance if you prefer to go for the slightly more expensive ones instead of the standard unlimited package operators' mobile tariffs with calls abroad. These premium products come with an FUP of 3 to 10 GB depending on the provider, which sounds pretty tempting. However, you have to consider that tariffs of this type will empty your wallet a little more. Their prices start at 999 CZK.

Recharge cards with data package

The third option that wins unlimited tariffs from O2, Vodafone and T-Mobile, so if you are on data and can do without SMS and calls, they are classic prepaid plans with mobile internet. For example, you can get a rechargeable card with 5 GB for just 549 CZK. However, each minute called and text message sent is charged separately, so if you don't communicate only via the Internet, you won't have to wonder how quickly the recharged credit will leave you.

With a dual phone, you win

The phone with two SIM card slots offers an elegant solution to grow up with phone operators. Thanks to it, you can combine mobile Internet, for example, with with a favorable tariff from T-Mobile, with which you can call and text a few ducks. You can adjust both products exactly according to your needs, and the final price in most cases is very favorable.

What does the future look like?

Currently it is Vodafone tariff offer almost identical to O2 and T-Mobile. Will something change in the foreseeable future, or will we have to make do with unlimited tariffs and squint enviously across the borders, where operators give out significantly larger portions of data?

We asked the opinion of Ondřej Nacke, a specialist in telecommunications from the Ušetřeno.cz portal, who told us about it: "Clients who, in the first wave of interest, agreed to an unlimited tariff, often discovered over time that they could comfortably fit into one of the cheaper tariffs in terms of the number of minutes called and SMS sent. Due to the changes in the market and the expansion of fast LTE Internet, there are also more and more people who would prefer a data volume of around 5 GB or more instead of free calls. It can be expected that the demand for data tariffs in the Czech Republic will not simply drop, and therefore it will be interesting to see which of the operators will react to it first."  So who do you think it will be?
