The giant Samsung Electronics has existed on our market for an incredible 78 years, and few would say today that in its beginnings the company was engaged in, for example, sugar production and insurance business. When Lee Bylung-Chul started his small business in Daegu under the Samsung Store brand in 1978, he surely had no idea that he was laying the foundations of a colossus that accounts for 20% of South Korea's total exports.

From black and white television to the first smart watch

The history of Samsung Electronics, as we know the brand today, hides countless treasures. As the first ever electronic product, the company introduced a black-and-white television in 1970, and a few years later also a color version. However, the first mobile device ended in disaster and car phone from 1985, it was only on the shelves for a short time and then its production was discontinued.

Who would have thought that the foundations of today's Gear watches were laid in 1999 with the SPH-WP10 device, which we can consider the very first watch in the world. You could also make phone calls from the rather bizarre-looking device, the battery charge was enough for 90 minutes of talk time. Backlit LCD display and the possibility of voice commands meant a revolutionary innovation at the time.

We don't know the first mobile phone from Samsung's workshop, but the Korean giant invaded the market with such aggression and enthusiasm that we can definitely say that the company laid the foundations for all today's smartphones. In 2001, when the now-dead concept of a PDA device "snorted", Samsung released the SPH-i300 model. The PDA device, which could also be used to make phone calls, had a color display and operated on the Palm OS platform.

A decade-long lead in TV sales, over 370 employees, and number one in smartphone sales are signs that Samsung Electronics' history as a giant electronics colossus can start with something as small as selling local groceries.
