The South Korean manufacturer was able to celebrate last year, as it scored a significant legal victory. The United States Supreme Court has ruled that the company cannot be forced to return all profits from phones that infringe design patents. This was only a "small" part of the infringed component patents.

However, now Samsung will have to a Apple to go through the entire court process again, as the case was brought back to a lower court. Apple and Samsung fought each other in court for more than five years. Samsung was initially accused of copying the design of the original iPhone - the layout of the home screen and the bezels. The Cupertino company was originally supposed to receive $1 billion in damages from Samsung, but the amount was reduced to $399 million.

Thanks to a Supreme Court order, the Federal Circuit had to reopen the entire case, which involved two giants— Apple vs Samsung. The federal court will now look at what damage Samsung actually did. One way or another, the South Korean manufacturer will have to pay several million dollars to its main competitor.
