American operator AT&T announced a few hours ago that it is ready to advance technologically. Based on this, it decided to shut down its oldest 2G networks, making it the first operator ever to take such a step forward. The company says that by removing the older generations, it can focus as much as possible on building the latest 5G wireless technology. The end of 2G networks has been talked about for four years.

While domestic operators are only building 4G LTE networks, in America they are already decommissioning their old networks and preparing for the maximum expansion of 5G technology. According to one of the largest operators in the world, AT&T, 99 percent of users in the US are covered by 3G or 4G LTE – so there is no reason to keep this old technology. Other operators will disconnect 2G networks within a few years. So, for example, with Verizon, this should happen in two years, and with T-Mobil only in 2020.
