Bribery often doesn't pay. The vice chairman and heir of the South Korean company Samsung, Lee Jae-yong, knows about it. According to the lawsuit, he was guilty of huge bribes that reached the border of 1 billion crowns, more precisely 926 million crowns. He allegedly tried to bribe South Korean President Park Geun-hye's confidant just to get benefits.

Immediately after the incident was made public, Samsung issued a statement denying the entire accusation. According to the prosecutors, Lee Jae-yong decided to send a large amount of money to unnamed foundations, which are managed by the confidant Cho Son-sil herself. The vice chairman of the South Korean giant wanted to secure government support for Samsung C&T's controversial merger with Cheil Industries, which was opposed by other owners. In the end, the whole situation was supported by the NPS pension fund. However, the chairman of the NPS fund himself, Moon Hyong-pyo, was indicted on Monday, January 16, for abuse of power and perjury.

This gentleman was already arrested in December, due to a confession in which he stated that he ordered the third largest pension fund in the world to support the already mentioned merger worth 2015 billion dollars in 8. Lee Jae-yong was interrogated for 22 hours two weeks ago.

A sudden reversal by the investigators

According to the latest information from Korea, the largest independent investigation team overseeing the entire corruption scandal will seek another arrest warrant for Lee Jae-yong. The arrest warrant should be filed by the beginning of next month. The first request was rejected by the court because it did not consider the deputy chairman to be such a person who could be a risk for society - he did not have to be detained.
