Mobile platforms presented by Apple and Google have been with us for ten years, but from the beginning it was not at all clear who would be the king of the global market. The Google team has been hard at work building a boring BlackBerry clone. However, Google's engineers were able to do something, thanks to which they did not end up under the turf, like the rival BlackBerry.

Google took a slight inspiration from Apple and a few months later, after the introduction of the first iPhone, announced the arrival of a new mobile system Android. In the beginning, the system did not do well at all, while the other platforms, represented by Nokia, BlackBerry and Microsoft, did great.

If Google wanted to be king and succeed with its system, it had to take drastic steps. At the end of 2008, he started working with HTC and the same year they jointly released the first mobile phone with Androidem – HTC Dream/G1. Frankly, it didn't seem like he could, at least at first glance Android become the absolute number one on the market.

De facto, for ten long years, there have been various court battles over patents that both companies have infringed on each other. However, in this article we will focus on what he came up with Apple a Android he perfected it.

1. High resolution displays

It brought high-resolution displays to the market Apple, and with your own iPhonem 4, which had a new technology called Retina. At that moment, the apple company started a big war with other competing manufacturers. However, they currently have Apple the phones slowly have the lowest resolution, at least compared to other flagships. Even with the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, the situation has not improved much, but the support for a wide color gamut, which the new Apple phones have, almost catches up with the quality of OLED displays.

2. App store

Android although it does not have better applications than iOS. In fact, the biggest gap is in the user experience. The overall quality of applications between the two platforms is similar. While but Android gives developers more flexibility, iOS applications are smoother and much more consistent.

He had from the very beginning Apple big problems with developers - it's very selective, at least when it comes to allowing apps for the App Store. The reason for such pickiness is essentially simple. Apple tries to get only the highest quality ones into its app store, which works very well.

We don't even have to go that far for an example. Snapchat for iOS is much better than pro Android. This reputation for quality sometimes results in certain developers developing their apps for iOS either exclusively or first.

Of course, there is the other side of the coin, i.e. the disadvantage. For developers Android apps, there is much less risk of spending thousands and thousands of hours on development just to not have the app denied listing for Google Play. Thanks to this, the development community for Android the app has grown so quickly. But that doesn't mean there aren't enough apps in the App Store. Users of both platforms have more apps than is healthy.

In Google Play, you can immediately find a whole range of interesting and creative applications. For starters, there are many powerful tools that allow you to change the entire design of your operating system Android. And that's something you won't find in the competition Apple App Store. For Android there is also an application called Tasker that opens up a world of possibilities for automating tasks and processes. However, I have to admit that it is not always possible to find a good application in Google Play.

However, there was only one thing Google skipped Apple App Store. At the recent I / O conference, Google introduced a genius feature. The idea behind the new feature is clear – once you're on a website or service that has its own app, you can use some of the app's features. All this without having to install the entire application. Ideal use is for example online shopping, game demos and social networks. Google will also release the Instant Apps SDK for developers in the next few days.

3. Quick setup

Android it used to offer a very confusing settings menu. But not for long. Apple in fact, it came with a new control panel that was inspired by Google and created quick and clear settings. This gives users easy access to a customizable menu that allows them to tweak more than a dozen different settings. The worst at iOS is that it has control panels that are not customizable. Android it has a much wider range of settings compared to Apple.

4. Keyboard

Apple's system keyboard completely changed the use of the phone as such. However, even so compared to the competition, it is considerably poorer. First of all, it does not support various gestures, shortcuts and drag typing, which is offered by the basic keyboard of all phones with Androidem.

He didn't support it until recently iOS nor keyboards from third parties, which is true with the arrival iOS 8 changed, but at first there were big problems with support, keyboards were falling and getting stuck. The current situation is better, but the developers still have their hands tied, which is mainly due to the fact that Apple places particular emphasis on safety.

5. Software Updates

It's true, isn't it Android can not iOS compete in the availability of updates as such, since with Apple all owners of a compatible device receive the latest software at once, but it still has Android on top of something. New update mechanism for Android Because Nougat is brilliant. Instead of having to leave all your activities on your phone and go to update, you can now download the new update in the background while still using your phone. He can actually do that too iOS, but at Androidwith 7.0 there is also a background install of the new version, because everything is uploaded to a separate partition, then you just need to reboot the device and you are immediately on the new system. AT iOS the installation takes half an hour or more and you cannot use the device during it.
