Only a month ago, the South Korean company Samsung published the results of an investigation into the fiasco around Galaxy Note7. Phone explosions were caused by bad batteries that heated up so much during charging that the separator between the anode and cathode was damaged. The manufacturing issues put Samsung in the red, and to mitigate the impact on the company, it decided to equip the defective units with smaller 3200mAh batteries.

New informace, coming from Hankyung.com, claims that the refurbished models will have batteries with a capacity of between 3000 and 3200 mAh – the original Galaxy The Note7 was kept alive by a 3500mAh battery. It should be added that the refurbished units will only reach the Indian and Vietnamese markets, unfortunately they will not come to Europe.

Small changes are said to be reflected on the surface of the device, so the appearance may differ slightly from the original one. Apart from the changed battery capacity, all other parts and parameters should be the same – processor, memory size, camera and other components. Samsung is said to have managed to repair almost 98% of all defective phones so far, which is approximately 2,99 million devices. Environmental responsibility is also behind the decision, because the company will not have to dispose of all parts just because of a defective battery, but can use them in this way. How many repaired phones will even make it to store shelves, and how many devices will actually be sold, remains to be seen.
