Samsung presented 4 unique projects of its Creative Lab (C-Lab) development center during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. The presented prototypes bring a wide range of experiences with virtual and augmented reality. They are exhibited as part of a special platform for startups called "4 Years From Now" (4YFN). The aim of this presentation is not only to raise awareness of the projects, but also to connect with potential investors.

C-Lab, an internal "incubation" program that fosters a creative corporate culture and develops innovative ideas from Samsung employees, was created back in 2012 and is in its fifth year of supporting the development of inventive ideas from all sections of the business. Among the products on display are a smart aid for the visually impaired, glasses that make it possible to work on a PC without a monitor, a VR device for the home and a 360-degree platform for unique travel experiences.

Relúmĭno

Relúmĭno is an application that works as a visual aid for people who are nearly blind or visually impaired, thanks to which they can read books or watch a TV program more clearly and clearly than ever before through the Gear VR glasses. This is a mobile application that, when installed in the Samsung Gear VR glasses, can enrich images and texts, and users have better quality content available.

The technology even has the ability to remap blind spots by repositioning images and uses the Amsler grid to correct the image distortion caused by just distorted vision. Relúmĭno allows visually impaired people to watch television without the use of expensive visual aids currently available on the market.

monitorless

Monitorless is a remote-controlled VR/AR solution that allows users to use devices such as smartphones and PCs without a monitor. The solution lies in special glasses that resemble ordinary sunglasses. Content from other devices such as smartphones and PCs are projected into them and can be used for both augmented and virtual reality thanks to the electrochromic glass layer implemented on the glasses. Monitorless responds to the current situation where not enough virtual content is created, and in addition allows users to play high-capacity computer video games on mobile devices.

"We constantly encourage new ideas and creativity, especially when they can lead users to new experiences," said Lee Jae Il, vice president of Creative and Innovation Center at Samsung Electronics. “These latest examples of projects from C-Lab remind us that there are talented entrepreneurial people among us who are not afraid to become pioneers. We look forward to more innovative applications for VR and 360-degree video, as we see huge opportunities in this area.”
