Introduced by Samsung last month Galaxy S8 (and of course Galaxy The S8+) is the first ever smartphone in the world to boast the new Bluetooth 5.0. This is certainly great news, but what does it actually mean for the owner of the "ace-eight" in the end? Is it at all possible to use some of the advantages of the new standard when accessories (speakers, headphones, car radios, wearables etc.) don't have it yet? If, as future owners of the new king from Samsung, you want to know the answers to these questions, then today's article is perfect for you.

What's new in Bluetooth 5.0:

What is actually new in Bluetooth 5.0? The latest standard comes together with three improved features. Specifically, it boasts better range, higher transmission speed, and the ability to transmit more data in one "message." But let's look at the news in a little more detail.

Better reach

Compared to the previous version, the new Bluetooth 5.0 has up to 4x better range, which means that instead of the original 60 meters, Bluetooth 5.0 reaches a theoretical 240 meters. The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (BSIG) thus promises that with the new standard it can essentially cover your entire household, which is absolutely ideal for the Internet of Things. So if you buy headphones over time or speaker with Bluetooth 5.0, you can let Galaxy S8 at home and go lie down in the garden by the pool, the music will still be played smoothly.

Higher speed

Bluetooth 5.0 is compared to its predecessor 2x faster. This means that the new standard can transfer data at a speed of up to 50 Mb/s instead of the previous version's 25 Mb/s. However, it is important to note that these are only theoretical speeds that were measured in the laboratory under ideal conditions (no obstacles, etc.). In practice, the higher speed could mean faster pairing of accessories to the phone, but again you'll need to have both devices with Bluetooth 5.0.

More data (most interesting)

While for better range and faster speeds you need Bluetooth 5.0 not only on your phone but also on connected accessories, the ability to transfer more data is different. A message (similar to a packet) transferring data from one device (telephone) to another (e.g. speaker) new with Bluetooth 5.0 contains up to 8x more data. This means in practice that Galaxy The S8 is capable of wirelessly playing music on two speakers at the same time, so you can create a sort of fake "stereo."

It can also come in handy when you and a friend want to listen to the same song that only you have on your phone. Enough to Galaxy Connect your and your friend's wireless headphones to the S8, and you and he can listen to the same song, each in their own headphones. The good news is that you only need an accessory with Bluetooth 4.2 or lower for this most interesting novelty.

Updated about a great video from a YouTuber Marques Brownlee, which clearly shows how it is Galaxy S8 capable of playing the same song on two speakers at once:
