There can be no doubt that modern technologies make our daily lives easier. However, Samsung's latest plans could push the imaginary boundary of facilitation a bit further. In a few years, the South Korean giant would very much like to create tools that would diagnose mental health using virtual reality.

The project has a tough road ahead of it

The plan is really grand from his description, don't you think? Even Samsung itself approaches it with humility and has so far avoided making bold claims while building it. However, he has already entered into a partnership with South Korea's Gangnam Severance Hospital and allegedly with some of the producers of virtual reality content, which should help them develop the necessary tools. The goal of all three institutions is then clear – using the Samsung Gear VR virtual reality set, medical data from the hospital and virtual content from the supplier to create tools that could diagnose certain mental problems and subsequently help patients. In addition, thanks to the glasses, the attending physician should obtain a variety of assessments of the patient's psychological state, which would be much more time-consuming to obtain in any other way.

According to available information, the first goal that the newly formed alliance would like to focus on should be suicide prevention and then psychological evaluation of patients. If all the procedures prove successful, Samsung will also start further development.

Although it may seem quite unbelievable in our parts, in the world the use of virtual reality in various medical therapies is quite a common routine. In Australia, for example, this technology is used in homes for the elderly for patients with dementia, who experience positive emotions thanks to virtual reality, which at least partially stimulate their mental health. In some hospitals, virtual reality is used to alleviate loneliness and isolation in long-term patients who lack a home environment. Hopefully we will see similar conveniences in the future here as well.
