You have probably heard about the very interesting "smart" docking station Samsung DeX during the past months. Thanks to this novelty, which Samsung presented at the beginning of this year together with a number of Galaxy S8, you practically stop needing a computer and replace it with your mobile phone. After connecting an external monitor and keyboard, the docking station turns it into a computer. That in itself is really cool. However, now a video has appeared on the Internet showing an enthusiast who was not satisfied with the dock and created an entire DeX notebook!
Underappreciated technology?
Perhaps it's a bit of a shame that the DeX dock didn't catch on as much as it could have. That is, although it is used, I would personally expect much more from such technology. Perhaps it is very limited by the fact that the user has to connect other components to it in order for it to be able to work at all. The laptop you see in the video would eliminate all such problems and perhaps even elevate the whole DeX idea. However, the price would probably be significantly higher compared to a relatively cheap docking station, which you can get for around three thousand crowns.

However, in order not to turn a mosquito into a camel, we must admit that technology companies have presented themselves with similar things in the past. For example, Motorola introduced its "mobile computer" back in 2011. Even then, however, it did not fully follow through with its idea and the whole idea fizzled out. And now, in 2017, it looks like virtually the same scenario with a similar product. However, let's be surprised, perhaps Samsung is preparing to take a similar step and will soon present its DeX notebook to us. Flagships that support this dock would definitely deserve a similar "add-on".
