In the past years, we probably saw Samsung's legal battle with the company Apple, who sued Samsung for stealing their product patents and designs. As this feud slowly died down, one would think it was all over. Yesterday, however, the American judge decided on its continuation.

The initiative that came from Samsung was not born easily. The first attempts to resume the trial were dismissed by the court. However, the California Supreme Court has become convinced that Samsung's arguments about the incorrectness of the previous decision are relevant and that the proceedings should be reopened. The companies therefore have until this Wednesday to draft a timetable for the entire process. It can be assumed that it will be really long.

However, there is of course also a small chance that the two technological giants will come to an agreement between the courts. Given the strained relations and the fact that companies are adamant about their truth, this cannot be assumed.

Who has the bigger trump card?

The cards are dealt pretty clearly. Last year, Samsung was fined half a billion dollars to compensate Apple for damages caused by stolen patents. Even so, Samsung will try to refute its amount and have part of it returned. Apple however, he will want to prevent this by all available means and, on top of that, convince the court that Samsung pays for each misused device separately. This would catapult the fine to astronomical proportions and make South Koreans really uncomfortable.

At this point, it's hard to say who has the upper hand in the dispute. However, since the court has already reduced Samsung's sentence quite a bit and did not give it the full amount, a similar scenario can be expected now. However, let's be surprised what both companies end up with.
