If anything Samsung in the spring of last year apart from its beautiful Infinity displays Galaxy The S8 and S8+ caught my eye, it was undoubtedly the DeX dock. This smart dock turns your smartphone into a personal computer on which you can perform many tasks without any problems. However, you need a monitor, keyboard and mouse to connect DeX to. And that could partially change with the arrival of the second generation of this interesting gadget.

A few days ago, the South Korean giant registered the trademark "DeX Pad", which more or less confirms the existence of the new dock. Unfortunately, we still do not know 100% what it will look like and what functions it will bring. However, there has been speculation for some time that it should work on the principle of a classic wireless charging pad. Thanks to this, the phone connected to the DeX Pad could be used, for example, as a larger trackpad or even as a keyboard. In theory, users could get by with just a pad, a phone and a connected monitor for lighter tasks. However, there is also the possibility that the mobile phone placed on the pad turns into a touch panel that expands the selection of characters or controls, which we know from Apple's MacBook Pro under the name Touch Bar.

This is what the current version of DeX looks like:

Let's see what the new one has for us Galaxy The S9 finally delivers with its DeX Pad. There are quite a few upgrades that the current DeX could receive. However, on the other hand, isn't the overall idea of a personal computer created from a smartphone via a special pad already outdated, when, for example, the competing Huawei Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro can handle most DeX functions only after connecting a monitor via a USB-C cable? Hard to say.
