Samsung at last year's flagships Galaxy The S8 and S8+ introduced a new screen design called the Infinity Display. Basically, this is a marketing term used by Samsung to describe the display, which is commonly called "bezel-less".

Until now, the Infinity Display was limited to the flagships of the range Galaxy, however, Samsung decided to lend the design to other smartphones from its product portfolio. At the beginning of this year, first-class mid-range phones saw the light of day Galaxy A8 (2018) a Galaxy A8+ (2018) with just that display, but not exactly the one you find on Galaxy S8 to Galaxy S8+. Samsung chose a non-curved option for the "eyes".

Samsung wants to maintain its dominance and increase profitability

The Samsung Display division will also provide frameless displays for other mid-range smartphones. However, the company won't be supplying other smartphone makers with the curved Infinity displays you know from Galaxy S8 to Galaxy S8+, it will be straight OLED panels that were used in the A8 series. They are cheaper than curved alternatives. Samsung Display decided to take this step in order to maintain its dominant position and increase profitability. It currently holds a 95% market share in the OLED panel market.

Samsung wants to diversify its client base, so it is looking for other companies that will purchase OLED panels from it. It therefore focuses specifically on brands that want to use more modern OLEDs instead of LCDs for mid-range smartphones. Next, Samsung will focus on high definition TVs and curved screens.
