Samsung introduced its new SDD, which will offer an incredible 30TB of storage. It is thus not only the largest SSD disk in the company's offer, but also in the whole world. The disk in 2,5" format is intended primarily for business customers who do not want to have their data on multiple memory disks.

The Samsung PM1643 is made of 32 pieces of 1TB NAND flash, each containing 16 layers of 512Gb V-NAND chips. This is enough space to store about 5700 movies in FullHD resolution or about 500 days of continuous video recording. It also offers impressive sequential read and write speeds of up to 2100 MB/s and 1 MB/s. That's about three times higher than average consumer SDD speeds.

Samsung maintained its lead in SDD

Already in March 2016, the company presented a then new series of SDD disks with a storage space of up to 16TB. It was also intended for business customers, mainly because of the price, which rose to almost a quarter of a million crowns.

In August 2016, Seagate tried to overtake its competitor thanks to its SDD drive, which offered an incredible 60TB. However, it was a 3,5″ format, not 2,5″, as offered by Samsung. At the same time, it was rather an attempt that did not appear on the market.

It is still not clear when this year's novelty from Samsung will go on sale, and the price remains a big question mark. This will also be increased by a more robust design of the disk and its warranty for 5 years. At the same time, the company wants to release several other versions offering lower capacities. Vice President Jaesoo Han also said in a press release that the company will continue to aggressively respond to demand for SDD drives offering over 10TB. He will also try to get companies to switch from hard disks (HDD) to SDD.
