In recent months, it has been speculated that the flagships of the South Korean giant will receive 7nm LPP technology with EUV next year. Samsung and Qualcomm confirmed the speculation today as they announced that they are expanding their partnership and will work together on EUV technology, which has been delayed for years.

Samsung and Qualcomm are long-standing partners, especially when it comes to 14nm and 10nm manufacturing processes. "We are pleased to continue to expand our partnership with Qualcomm Technologies for 5G technology used in EUV," said Samsung's Charlie Bae.

7nm LPP process with EUV

So Qualcomm will offer 5G Snapdragon mobile chipsets that will be smaller thanks to Samsung's 7nm LPP process with EUV. Improved processes in combination with the chip should also result in better battery life. Samsung's 7nm process is expected to outperform similar processes from rival TSMC. Additionally, the 7nm LPP process is Samsung's first semiconductor process to use EUV technology.

Samsung claims that its technology has fewer process steps, thus reducing the complexity of the process. At the same time, it has a better yield compared to the 10nm process and promises 40% higher efficiency, 10% higher performance and 35% lower energy consumption.
