Gartner has released figures on global smartphone sales for the fourth quarter of 2017 and for the full year of 2017. According to Gartner, nearly 408 million smartphones were sold in the last quarter of last year, which was down 2016% compared to the same quarter of 5,6. Gartner says this is the first year-over-year decline since the firm began tracking the smartphone market in 2004.

Xiaomi had the biggest sales

According to Gartner, Samsung maintained its lead in global smartphone sales, despite a 3,6% decline in sales compared to the same period last year. It ranked behind Samsung, which gained 18,2% market share Apple with a 17,9% market share. The five TOP sellers were closed by the brands Huawei, Xiaomi and Oppo. Huawei and Xiaomi were the only two companies to post growth in Q4 2017. The Xiaomi brand achieved the highest sales in Q4 2017, with sales up 4% compared to Q2016 79.

Gartner also released figures for global smartphone sales for the entire year. The figures show that Samsung had lower sales. The South Korean giant's share of the smartphone market increased from 20,5% (2016) to 20,9% (2017), thus Samsung retained the first place. Interestingly, in this case, Xiaomi did not make it to the top five sellers, even though it had huge sales in the second half of 2017.

The Gartner report relies on anecdotal and incomplete data informace from different sources, so numbers need to be taken with a grain of salt. While according to Gartner, Samsung took first place for Q4 2017, according to IDC again Apple.
