Yesterday, Samsung finally introduced the much-awaited smartphones Galaxy S9 to Galaxy S9+. Along with a number of innovations, the pair comes with improved security features for authentication and data access.

Samsung introduced an iris scanner in the unfortunate model Galaxy Note7. Later, the function also got into Galaxy S8 to Galaxy Note8, however, the latest flagships boast a more sophisticated system. The iris sensor has been improved, so it can identify iris patterns even from greater distances.

Smart Scan combines iris sensing and facial recognition

Facial recognition technology was already introduced in Galaxy S8, but Samsung has worked on it, so it is in Galaxy S9 slightly better. It uses more data to recognize different facial features, it can even recognize a face from different angles.

In addition, Samsung combines iris sensing, facial recognition and smart technologies to create a seamless system based on biometric authentication. He called the system Intelligent Scan.

Intelligent Scan analyzes your face, ambient light conditions and determines the ideal authentication method to unlock your device. Simply put, it's a smart authentication system that automatically chooses whether to unlock the phone based on facial recognition or iris scanning, depending on what environment you're in. The user thus unlocks the phone in various environments without any problems.

The combination of two different solutions should make authentication easier even for users who have something over their face, such as a scarf. Samsung plans to integrate the feature into various apps as well, starting with Samsung Pass.

Galaxy The S9 also has a fingerprint reader, so you can unlock it by looking, touching or entering a password. It's up to you what works for you.
