Two months ago at CES 2018 in Las Vegas, Samsung unveiled a huge 146-inch TV that uses a modular design made up of smaller blocks that can be connected seamlessly. In essence, this is the very first modular MicroLED TV in the world called The Wall.

The individual diodes consist of self-generating micrometric LEDs, which are much smaller than the classic LEDs used in current TVs. Thanks to the technology used, the TV is much thinner, and it can also maintain deep blacks and high contrast ratios, similar to OLED panels. Samsung announced that The Wall will go on sale in August this year.

Samsung has not yet revealed how much the device will cost, but we assume that the price will be quite high. The name itself suggests that you can connect individual blocks until you create a full-screen TV. Samsung has moved away from OLED panels and focused on quantum dot technology, which may mark the beginning of a whole new era.

LED technology eliminates the need for backlighting, as each sub-pixel lights up by itself. Without this technology, Samsung would not have achieved deep blacks and high contrast ratios.

The Wall will go on sale in August this year. In addition to The Wall, this year Samsung also came up with a number of other QLED, UHD and Premium UHD TVs.
