Although Samsung presented us with its new flagship only a few weeks ago, they are slowly starting to seep into the world informace about the news it has in store for the 2019 model. According to a report by a Korean daily The Bell namely, it works on 3D sensors, thanks to which it could compete with the TrueDepth front camera of the iPhone X.

According to available information, Samsung has started working with an Israeli startup with which they would like to develop their own 3D facial recognition sensor for the upcoming Galaxy 10. With this improvement, the security of his phone would be greatly increased, since until now he was only using a 2D scan, which, however, cannot adequately match a 3D scan. In order to overcome it, even a simple photograph was enough for a moment, but this is impossible with a 3D scan.

Hard to say how Samsung's system would work. However, if he were to stick at least partially to the one he uses Apple, we would see a system using tens of thousands of lasers that scan the face and, based on their stored scan, then compare whether the face of the user trying to unlock the phone matches the template stored in the phone. However, it's not just phone unlocking that would be greatly improved with the use of this technology. Thanks to the use of 3D sensors, Samsung could also significantly improve its new AR Emoji, which in terms of sophistication cannot quite match Apple's competing Animoji. Apple Animojis copy the expressions of users really accurately, which is completely impossible to say about AR Emoji.

Hunt for Applem

The world's leading analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also confirmed that Apple's technology is very sophisticated. He subsequently even declared that phone manufacturers with Androidem will approach a similar technology in two and a half years at the earliest. However, if Samsung really managed to produce its own 3D facial scan, it would beat Kuo's prediction by a year and a half (assuming that Galaxy S10 will be presented at the turn of the first quarter of next year).

So we will see how the project will continue to develop and whether Samsung will be able to successfully complete it. However, if the South Korean giant wants to be competitive in this regard, as Applem wants to keep up, he probably has nothing else left. The face scan is starting to play an important role in user authentication, and the legendary fingerprint scan is slowly but surely leaving behind.
