Samsung and KDDI have tested the next generation of connectivity with prototype tablets that support the 5G network. The companies tested the 5G cellular network at Okinawa Cellular Stadium, a stadium with a capacity of 30 fans, and released the results a few days ago. In Japan, this was the first attempt to test 5G connectivity using 5G tablets that simultaneously downloaded and streamed 4K video using the millimeter wave spectrum.

Samsung placed 5G access units on a light tower near the stadium, then placed tablets that streamed video over 5G on seats in the auditorium.

“5G has a strong potential to create new user experiences and business models that are much more dynamic than ever before. By working with KDDI, we will continue to explore business models based on 5G.” said Youngky Kim, president and head of network business at Samsung Electronics.

The Samsung and KDDI team used 5G technology with the ultra-high 28GHz spectrum band to demonstrate that 5G connectivity is accessible to a large number of mobile device users in stadiums, music concerts, fairs and conferences.
