US data protection company PACid Technologies filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Samsung a week ago. The company claims that biometric features such as fingerprint, facial or iris recognition and basic authentication systems Samsung Pass and Samsung KNOX, which appeared on Samsung flagships, infringed two patents in the United States and one patent in South Korea.

Damages could reach up to $3 billion

Patents infringe all variants Galaxy S6, Galaxy S7 to Galaxy S8. The sales volume of these devices will be used to calculate damages if it is proven that Samsung knew it was infringing the patents. PACid Technologies claims that the South Korean giant knew about the patent violations as early as January 2017. If Samsung is defeated in the legal battle, the damages could reach up to $3 billion.
