When he presented last September Apple new iPhone X, which allowed you to project your facial expressions into animated smileys called Animoji, many people slapped their foreheads. Is this supposed to be the revolution that has been constantly speculated about for months? However, over time, it became clear that people love and use Animoji on iPhone X with real gusto. Because of this, many competing companies decided to create a similar trick and introduce it to their phones. And Samsung was one of them.

Samsung presented together with its new flagship models Galaxy The S9 and S9+ have their own version of Apple's Animoji, which they call AR Emoji. Unfortunately, she can't do it yet Applem too equal, because it does not reach anywhere near such reliability. But why is this so? The people from the Loom.ai startup, from which Samsung bought the license for this toy, answered exactly this question.

One of AR Emoji's main weapons was to create your own animated characters to resemble your face. Unfortunately, these were not very successful in the end and do not get very close to the users' faces. The paradox, however, is that we ourselves are partly to blame for this result. Not because our faces are, to put it mildly, unsuccessful, but because we expect the phone to perform all operations in a flash. However, this is a big problem with AR Emoji.

According to people from the startup, it was originally necessary to "scan" the face for about 7 minutes before it was possible to create a really nice animated copy. However, it was clear to Samsung that no one devotes long minutes to this entertainment and therefore decided to "cut" it as much as possible. Unfortunately, the result is what it is. However, using the front camera to create AR Emoji is also a weakness. While Apple uses the revolutionary TrueDepth camera to control Animoji, Galaxy The S9 has to make do with a "mere" 2D image. It is therefore clear that even this fact will have a negative impact on quality.

On the other hand, people from the startup are convinced that all (or at least most) of the shortcomings can be erased with the help of software updates that Samsung will supply its new flagships. So if you're unhappy with your animated twin in AR Emoji, know that it will get better.
