There is no doubt that some markets are far more interesting than others for smartphone manufacturers due to their huge purchasing power. Undoubtedly, the market in India is among the most lucrative, which is a very populous country and thus a great purchasing power for smartphone sellers who focus on it. Dominating such important markets often brings with it a great advantage in the fight for overall supremacy in the smartphone market. However, as it seems, the South Korean giant is starting to weaken in the Indian market and will probably not look at the throne for the ruler of India anytime soon.

Samsung faces a lot of competition mainly from Chinese manufacturers who are able to produce great smartphones at very low prices that many customers hear about. Although the South Korean giant is trying to respond to this strategy with its own cheap smartphones, it is unable to keep up with China, at least in India. That's why he ceded the position of the largest smartphone seller some time ago to rival Xiaomi, which, according to Canalys' analysts, is not just getting off the throne.

Canalys-India

In the first quarter of this year, Xiaomi shipped more than 9 million smartphones to the Indian market, accounting for roughly 31% of all smartphones shipped to the country. Although Samsung was also involved in deliveries, it was able to deliver "only" roughly 27% of the delivered smartphones to the country. It is also interesting that, according to analysts, the best-selling model from Xiaomi reached roughly 3,5 million units sold, while the best-selling model from Samsung (Galaxy J7 Nxt) sold "only" 1,5 million units last quarter.

Although these numbers are unflattering for Samsung, this is of course only an analysis that can be completely misleading. However, we will have to wait a while for an official statement or numbers directly from Samsung. However, according to the first estimates of Samsung's own profits, it seems that despite the possible drop in India, the company will be satisfied.
