Imagine a virtual personal assistant greeting you every time you walk into a room, then asking you if you want to listen to music, and you simply choose a store according to your mood. At the same time, you could ask the assistant to adjust the lights in the room based on your mood. It might sound too futuristic, but Samsung is developing just such a feature for its smart speaker.

We have known for a long time that they are working on a smart speaker in South Korea, which should most likely be called the Bixby Speaker. However, Samsung is almost the last to arrive on the market with it, so it is basically necessary for it to somehow stand out among the current competition. But the company's latest patent suggests it has an ace up its sleeve.

According to the patent, the Bixby Speaker would have many more sensors than other smart speakers. He would thus be able to find out if a person is in the room, for example through a microphone. Samsung could also integrate an infrared sensor into the speaker, which could detect human movements. A camera might not be missing either, but in that case the company could face criticism for restricting privacy.

The patent also describes that the speaker could have temperature and humidity sensors or a GPS module for determining the location, so it would be able to recognize the current informace about the weather. The temperature and humidity sensor would be able to recognize the mood of the users.

DJ Koh, CEO of Samsung's mobile division, said it will introduce its smart speaker in the second half of the year. However, it is not yet certain what exactly the device will be called and what specific functions it will offer.
